Raise your hand if you’re stressed about finals! *Raises both hands and legs*. This time of year is so stressful for college students. We spend days and nights studying, writing papers, working on projects and presentations and STRESSING. I know I’m my worst self during finals, but after 4 years of college, I think I have my library study routine down pat! So I thought that today would be the perfect day to share these tips with you guys as well!
- Bring a computer charger and a phone charger
The worst thing in the world is when you’re at the library and your computer dies mid-sentence. It’s happened to me before and I didn’t have a charger with me. So now I always make sure to bring chargers because I always spend wayyyy more time in the library than my computer battery can handle.
- Treat Yo Self
Now I don’t mean going out and buying yourself something expensive or pulling a Tom Haverford, but treating yourself to a coffee/tea/whatever drink you like while studying gives you something to enjoy while you torture yourself. You should also treat yourself to mini breaks! I usually give myself a 5 minute break if needed when I finish half a page or a 10-15 minute break after a full page!
- Break up your tasks
Breaking up your huge projects into smaller pieces is seriously motivating! You feel like you’re accomplishing more because you have “more things” to accomplish! So if I have to write a 10 page paper I will break it up into 5 increments and reward myself with a snack or break when I finish two pages!
- Sit by yourself
I love being with my friends just as much as the next person, but when I’m studying I have to be by myself or I wont get anything done. I can usually get things done with friends during the semester, but for some reason during finals I can’t. Unless we vow not to talk for an hour and then give ourselves a break after (rewards!!).
- Listen to music without lyrics
I get so distracted when I’m studying while listening to music that I can sing along to. So, classical music is great option for this. Spotify has so many different study playlist options! And if you’re one of those people that can listen to music with lyrics there are obviously soooo many more playlists out there to choose from! Here are some options: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
- Avoid waiting until the last minute
Self-explanatory!! Waiting until the last minute is extremely stressful and will cause unnecessary anxiety! Start 2 weeks early and you’ll feel much better.
I feel like these steps may be a bit redundant but they’re so easy to follow and I feel like during all of the craziness we forget how simple it really is!
