Having the flu is no fun! Your body aches, you can’t breathe, you just feel absolutely disgusting. I am currently on day four of the flu and although I’ve been pretty miserable it was kind of nice having a few days off.
When you’re sick you’re always told the same few things… “drink fluids!” & “get some rest!” and while those are extremely important, they’re pretty obvious! Here are a few tips that helped me start to feel better!
- TAKE A HOT SHOWER OR BATH
I knew I was sick as soon as my body started to ache. Flu aches are painful and uncomfortable. Taking a hot shower helped me relax my muscles which helped my body relax a bit. I also took ibuprofen to help with the pain, but the hot water really helped me relax which is exactly what I needed.
- TAKE CARE OF YOUR SKIN
Having the flu meant not having to get up and put on makeup every day so it was a nice break for my skin. I know you are feeling awful and the thought of doing a whole skin-care routine sounds exhausting and pointless but I promise it’s not! Keeping up with your skin care routine is so beneficial and your face will thank you! Don’t forget to moisturize, especially around your nose!
- DIFFUSE SOME OILS
Okay I am not one of those people who believe that essential oils cure everything. To be honest, I diffuse them because I love the smell of them! But, I will admit that I think Eucalyptus really does help you breath better! Unfortunately my diffuser and oils are back home in Boston but every time I have a sinus infection I diffuse eucalyptus at night and it helps me breath better!
- KEEP YOUR FEET AND HEAD WARM
Did you know that we lose most of our body heat from our feet and head? Because of this, it’s important to keep them warm when you have the chills. Thick and fuzzy socks will be your best friend. Also throw on a cozy beanie and you’ll be feeling warm in no time!
- EAT VEGETABLES
You may not be hungry when you have the flu but if you have an appetite and want to eat make sure to eat some extra veggies! Heat up a bag of frozen veggies in the microwave and munch on them throughout the day! Those extra vitamins will help you fight off the flu!
Those are my tips for fighting off the flu! Remember to take care of yourself and allow yourself the time you need to feel better!
