It’s been a little over a month since I’ve moved to Florida to work for the Disney College Program and so far I am LOVING it. I know the program can be a bit confusing for those who don’t know much about it and blog posts like this helped me when I was applying. I asked you guys on instagram if you had any questions about the program and I got a lot of them so I decided to compile them all together and do a Disney College Program Q & A post!
Question: How is the program going?
Answer: So far so good! I’m really loving my job and the cast members I work with! I actually don’t dread going to work which is a nice change!
Q: What do you like most about the program?
Honestly? I love the guest interaction so much! Seeing a child’s face light up when they’re about to meet their favorite princess or listening to everyone laugh during Philharmagic makes me smile SO big! I love making someone’s Disney experience better than they could have hoped for!
Q: What is your role & what do you do?
I work in Attractions and I was assigned a section in Fantasyland! I rotate throughout three different attractions every day and there are a bunch of different positions within each of those attractions! It helps that we rotate every hour because you never really get bored and the shifts fly by!
Q: Is it hard not having a car?
A: Honestly, yes. It really sucks not having a car down here. The DCP provides bus transportation to all of the work locations and it’s obviously do-able but I really wish I had a car down here. It would make everything a lot easier! If you can bring a car I 100% suggest taking it with you!
Q: I applied but didn’t get in…can I try again?
A: You can apply again but you cannot apply during the same semester! So you will have to wait again to apply during your next semester!
Q: What is one thing you learned that you didn’t know before going there?
A: Not really something I learned but I’ve just come to realize how much actually goes into keeping Disney magical for guests! This company is AMAZING and really knows what they are doing! There are so many people who work together to keep the parks going every single day. It’s amazing to witness!
Q: What is the hardest part about dealing with the parents in the park?
A: Welllll, it’s really hard witnessing parents that yell at their children for being excited. Those kids feel like they’re in the most magical place on earth and it’s okay for them to be excited!
Q: How often are you off?
A: I usually work 5 days a week and I get two days off! I’m thinking this will change with spring break starting so soon but we will see! So far it’s a decent schedule even though I have some late nights!
Q: What are the tunnels under Magic Kingdom like?
A: LOL honestly they’re nothing special it’s just walkways and offices and to be honest they smell awful!! It’s so cool how they work and how they bring us to different locations within the park but I try to avoid being down there if possible just because it always smells SO bad.
Q: How do you find roommates? Is it easier to just go random?
A: Well I came down here with one of my friends from home so I always knew I’d be living with her! We met a group of girls on one of the many DCP facebook pages and instantly clicked so we decided we wanted to live with them! Just be aware that the number of people you can link with can change and you may only be able to choose one roommate. This happened with us so we had to split our group! Luckily Walt Disney was shining down on us and we all ended up being roommates anyway! I’m not sure if I could go random because I’m such a planner but if you want to, go for it!
Q: How long is the program and how long will you be there?
A: The program is different lengths of time depending on what you apply for. The regular spring group leaves May 16, the international students leave in June and the Spring Advantage group leaves in August! I am here until May but I applied to stay longer so we will see how long I actually end up staying!
So far the Disney College Program has been a blast and I love it here! If you have any more questions about the program don’t hesitate to ask!
